Detention Pond Maintenance

Did you know many subdivisions and other property types in Davenport are responsible for maintaining stormwater detention practices that serve the neighborhood or development?

Maintenance may be the responsibility of property owners, developers, or Homeowners Associations, but more often than not, property owners are unaware, and detention ponds are neglected.

Neglected detention practices can contribute to downstream issues such as increased localized flooding and increased pollution carrying run-off to our waterways.

You or your HOA could be responsible for costs associated with updating detention ponds and practices found in poor condition.

How do I find out who is responsible for maintenance?

  • Talk to your HOA or consult your plat to determine the requirements and if the detention is being adequately maintained.
  • Our Natural Resources staff are also here to help.  If you are not sure who is responsible, you can also call us at 563.326.7923 or e-mail us at [email protected].
