The Davenport Police Department has three full-time K-9 officers. All officers are assigned to the Patrol Division. The K-9's live and work with their handlers. K-9 handlers are equipped with a personally assigned police vehicle, equipment for their K-9 and training necessary to keep their K-9 at peak efficiency. The K-9's are used to detect drugs, search buildings, track people and control crowds.
Sergeant Brandon Koepke currently serves as the K-9 Unit Supervisor.
K-9 Maro is a dual purpose German Shepherd police dog and has been with the Davenport Police Department since March of 2021 with his partner Officer Michael Catton. K-9 Maro completed his initial training at Performance Kennels in Buffalo, MN. K-9 Kurly is trained in narcotics detection, tracking, building searches, article searches, and apprehension.
K-9 Dawn is a single purpose Black Labrador police dog and has been with the Davenport Police Department since August, 2016 with her partner Sergeant Brandon Koepke. K-9 Dawn completed her training at NIK-9 in Iowa. K-9 Dawn is trained in narcotics detection and tracking and article recovery.
K-9 Nandy (pronounced Andy) is a dual purpose German Shepherd police dog and has been with the Davenport Police Department since November of 2017 with his partner Officer Ryan Bowers. K- Nandy was imported from Slovakia and completed his initial training at Top Dogs Police K-9 Academy in Evansville Indiana. K- Nandy is trained in narcotics detection, tracking, building searches, article recovery, and apprehension.
