Why should you volunteer?
People volunteer for many reasons, such as giving back to their community, gaining new skills, socializing, making connections, or simply because it is rewarding to help others. Volunteering can also provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment, contributing to personal growth and well-being.
Volunteering in parks and recreation allows a person to contribute directly to the maintenance and enhancement of public spaces that everyone can enjoy and appreciate. It fosters a sense of stewardship for the environment and promotes community engagement.
Volunteering in parks and recreation provides opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, and learning about nature and conservation.
How to volunteer
- Check out current volunteer opportunities by visiting the Davenport Parks & Recreation Volunteer page.
- Once you have chosen an opportunity, register for the opportunity by creating or logging into a profile.
- Staff will follow up with you once you have submitted your interest.
Examples of Volunteer Opportunities
- Clean a park, plant flower beds, mulch playgrounds, paint and clean parks and facilities
- Community events in throughout Davenport (ex: Red White and Boom, Fejervary Family Fun Days, Youth Fest, Party in the Park)
- Coaching for youth sports: soccer, t-ball, basketball
- Special Olympic programs, events, and coaches
